Public Bus Service for Somerset County

Public transit service is now available in the communities of Skowhegan, Madison, Anson and Norridgewock three days a week.

The Somerset Explorer flex-route general public bus service is operating in lower Somerset County. 

Service is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

In association with the Move More Kids project, service is expanded to 5 days a week during the summer months. Continue to visit this website for schedule updates.

 Fares are $1.25 to $1.50. Kids 18 and under ride free.

New Routes in Upper Somerset County

Local Jackman Area Service – Wednesday’s

Beginning May 3, 2017, Somerset Explorer is providing local Jackman public transportation. It will be on Wednesdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Local area service is available for shopping, medical appointments in the Jackman area, meal sites, food pantries, socialization and other general transportation needs. The bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift to help serve people with disabilities. Rides must be scheduled in advance by calling KVCAP at 1-800-542-8227 option 2. This a general public service. Fares are $1.25 for each one-way trip. Fares are due when boarding.

Jackman to Skowhegan Service – Friday’s

Beginning May 5, 2017, Somerset Explorer is providing service between Jackman and Skowhegan on Fridays. The bus will depart Jackman at 9 AM and arrive in Skowhegan at approximately 11 AM. Destinations to be determined by riders. The bus will leave Skowhegan at 1 PM for the trip back to Jackman. This service is open to anyone on or near the Route 201 corridor, including Jackman, The Forks, Moscow, Bingham and Solon. This a general public service. Seating is limited. Rides must be scheduled in advance by calling KVCAP at 1-800-542-8227 option 2. Fares are $3.50 for each one-way trip. Fares are due when boarding.
