Hight Family Early Learning Center

The Hight Family Early Learning Center, a wing of the new Margaret Chase Smith Community School, provides early care and education to families in the greater Skowhegan area.  Infant/Toddler rooms offer full-day, full-year child care for children ages 6 weeks to three years. Preschool classrooms will provide early education for the Margaret Chase Smith Community School.

This unique new school design allows children to stay in one building from 6 weeks of age through 5th grade, providing continuity and enhanced education opportunities.

  • Full-day, full-year care
  • For children 6 weeks to age 3
  • Incorporate Early Head Start philosophies which promote the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of infants and toddlers
  • Up to 8 children per classroom
  • 3 highly qualified teachers per classroom
  • Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline techniques are used to guide children’s learning
  • Healthy breakfast, lunch and snack provided
  • Focus on nature-based education with outside play time every day unless weather conditions are not safe

 Preschool rooms

  • School-day, school-year option
  • Full-day, full-year option
  • Summer programs available
  • Extended care and summer programs also available
  • For children age 3 to 5
  • Incorporate Head Start philosophies which promote social skills, emotional well-being, language and literacy learning, and concept development
  • Up to 16 children per classroom
  • 3 highly qualified teachers per classroom with an additional fourth floating teacher aide.
  • PreK for ME curriculum and Conscious Discipline techniques are used to guide children’s learning
  • Individualized learning experiences
  • Healthy breakfast, lunch and snack provided
  • Focus on nature-based education with outside play time every day unless weather conditions are not safe
