Supporting the success of 6th – 12th grade students in Waterville and Winslow
Helping Students Stay in School
There are many reasons why young people drop out of school. Academic challenges, social problems and a lack of resources and/or support can all contribute to youth drop out rates. The youth Outreach Program works to identify each students unique challenges and together, create solutions to overcome the barriers to a successful school career.
Improving Academic Success
When youth experience academic success, it fuels their desire to stay in school. The Youth Outreach Program provides in-house tutoring and tutoring referrals at the South End Teen Center to promote this.
Graduating High School
Earning a high school diploma is the foundation for continuing education and is essential in today’s economy. Some youth face numerous obstacles and need the extra support of our Youth Outreach Worker in order to reach this major life milestone.
Pursuing Post-Secondary Education
Attending college or vocational training can be a very daunting and overwhelming experience for many youth, particularly when they are the first in their family to consider post-secondary education. The Youth Outreach Program helps students identify possible careers of interest, explore training opportunities and navigate the challenging process of applying for an receiving financial aid.
Many young people want to secure a part-time job while in high school. The Youth Outreach Program assists teens with resume writing, building job interview skills and learning appropriate work-place behavior.
