USDA TEFAP Food

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

The TEFAP contracts with KVCAP to distribute USDA Commodities to food cupboards and soup kitchens throughout Somerset and Kennebec counties for redistribution to income eligible recipients.

KVCAP distributes the USDA food commodities to food cupboards and soup kitchens for redistribution and inspects distribution sites to ensure food is handled properly and the locations are clean, accessible and follow the TEFAP guidelines.

In the event that a family or individual is out of food and the food bank in their town is not open, KVCAP will arrange for an emergency food package from another location for them. This food is not delivered and the recipient must have transportation to pick it up in most cases. Occasionally volunteers are available to deliver food.

To receive TEFAP food you must visit your local food cupboard and soup kitchen. Each location has different days and hours they are open. The dates and times should be clearly posted on the outside of the building for everyone to see.
