KVCAP Healthy Families - A Home Visiting Program

KVCAP Healthy Families provides support services to first-time expectant parents of MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville and Augusta, Inland Hospital, and Redington-Fairview General Hospital. Provides information on child development, health and safety, parent education and links to other community resources.

Who qualifies? First-time parents whose baby has not reached 3 months of age; Adolescent parents 21 years of age and under expecting a baby or whose baby has not reached 3 months of age, some restrictions apply; Families living in Kennebec and Somerset Counties that meet the above qualifications.
Participation is voluntary and free of charge.

Your Home Visitor will...

  • promote positive parent/child interaction.
  • bring activities you can do with your baby to enhance brain development.
  • offer baby care suggestions.
  • give tips on health and safety.
  • share child development information.
  • listen to your concerns and answer your questions.
  • provides services prenatally up to age 5.
  • link you to resources : Housing; Education; Financial; Transportation; Health Care; Family Planning; Child care

Playgroups and Story time

Fairfield Playgroup for infants and toddlers: Share your tales of parenting and have fun with your child! The third Tuesday of every month. Lawrence Public Library, 33 Lawrence Ave., Fairfield. 10:30 - 11:00 free play. For more information call 453-6867 or 861-5223.

Lithgow Library in Augusta hosts a number of free programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and families. Incredible Infants - rhymes and stories promoting reading readiness for infants, birth to 1 year, Fridays 10 am. Toddler Time - stories, rhymes and songs for 1-3 year olds, Tuesdays 10 am. Story Time for Families - stories, rhymes and movement for 3-5 year olds, Wednesdays at 10:00 am. All programs are free and open to the public. For more information call 626-2415.

Toddler/Preschool Activities at Hubbard Free Library, 115 Second Street, Hallowell - Wednesdays at 10:30. For more information call 622-6582.

Toddler Time at the Skowhegan Public Library - 2nd and 4th Mondays of every month from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Open to parents and children ages 6 months to 3 years of age (siblings welcome). For more information call 1-800-542-8227 ext. 2537.

Toddler Time (Ages 18-36 months) - This is a great opportunity to work on your child’s physical development while interacting with other children. Some activities will be pyramid ball, jam toss, play hunts, tunnels and lots of balls to play with. This is a parent supervision program. Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the Buker Center - Augusta. Free for Augusta residents, non-residents $2.00 per day. Also, Newborn - 18 months, Tuesdays 10:00 - 11:00 am.

Waterville Play Group - Share your tales of parenting with other parents and have fun with your child. 2nd & 4th Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Waterville Public Library. For more information call - 872-5443 or 873-4779. Sponsored by KVCAP & Waterville Public Library.
